Artist's Comments

I went out one day with my film camera to take an artistic photo of my German housemate putting her washing out, You can understand why, right?

I tweaked the colours and lighting a little as it was a LOT greener.

I hope you like it, I know I do. :)

Nice photo, although it is a tad voyeuristic. I hope you have the fräulein's permission to post it.

Oh, and lusting after your housemate(s) is a sure way to go mad...

Well... In the post-tense.
She's moved back to her home country, after a VERY messy breakup, here, down-under. :(

But yes! I was VERY lucky! :D

Oh yeah... Permission... I'll, ummm.
She's bound to be fine with it! But I'll ask anyways. :D

Thanks.
Oh! By the way, what's a really good low-light film? As the current film you have me on has VERY strong greens and isn't the best at low-light. :( Great for clouds and sunsets, but bad for twilight, dusk and stormy weather shots. :(

Well you can't go past Ilford Delta 3200 for speed, but it's black and white. I don't know where you'd get it developed in Canberra. As for colour, there is Superia 800 but it's not as widely available. Everyone seems to only stock the 400 speed and maybe the 200 and/or 100 speeds.

For anything else (and the Delta 3200) you'll probably have to mail order it. How about some Natura 1600 from Japan? I just got a bunch of Fujicolor Pro 800Z. If you'd asked before we visited you, I could have brought you a roll.

The alternative is to get a better lens. Because Mum bought your gear, you've got zoom lenses, which always have pretty pathetic maximum aperture sizes (unless you want to spend lots of money). Get a good prime lens that can open to at least f/2.8 and you won't need the faster film as much.

Oh...
Or I could save and buy a Digital SLR? Maybe, Yes? Or would that still not fix my problem?
Because I really don't have the time to set up a bloody tripod...

I'm not sure a DSLR would solve much. Their low-light performance is getting better in general; you would have to research which one does best at the price you can afford. And they are less flexible in that they lock you into the one sensor, whereas film can always be changed.

You would still need a better lens or lenses for low-light scenes. They're cheaper than a DSLR, so why don't you try that first?
